Elevating health information professionals
The Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and The Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) represent the national profession of health information in Canada.
The organization represents more than 5,900 health information members from coast to coast to coast in Canada. It advocates for the health information profession, accredits academic institutions, holds certification requirements for the health information professionals, develops and facilitates continuing education, and advances workforce opportunities in the health information industry across sectors.
The organization advocates for increased health data literacy to empower people to make better decisions.

As we look to the future with Plan 2028, we are going beyond the data. This five-year plan is grounded in our dedication to bring visibility and recognition to our professionals, empowering them to make positive impacts to the quality of care and quality of life for all people across this country.
The value of our profession is found in the intersection between clinical knowledge, professional leadership, and service that is empathetic, compassionate, and respectful. We recognize that health data is the story of a person.

The Canadian College of Health Information Management is a national, not-for-profit corporation that sets the accreditation standards for educational institutions and certification standards for health information professionals in Canada.

Governance
The organizations are governed under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (CNCA). The organization invests in the advancement of governance practices as an enabler to increase legitimacy for certified health information professionals and to ensure upholding of duty of care.
Board of directors
CHIMA and the College operate under a joint board of directors. The board includes members from diverse backgrounds across the country, including health information, finance, and various other sectors. This diversity brings a wealth of experiences and skills to help advance the profession.
Operating team
CHIMA and the College operate as one team representing two brands. The team includes members from diverse backgrounds fostering an environment where team members are encouraged to lead with curiosity and think critically to identify better ways of achieving outcomes.
History
A profession that has innovated since inception in 1912—learn more about the history of the profession. CHIMA came to Canada in 1942 and the Canadian College of Health Information was incorporated in 1972 as Not-for Profit corporations.
