National chapter updates July 2020

The chapter committees continue to evolve, and July saw the release of another free professional development offering for CHIMA members.

We are pleased to welcome Crystal Kearley to the role of NSPE chapter committee chair. As vice chair, Crystal had been assisting Loretta Trealout during the past few weeks and has now transitioned fully into the role of chair. Crystal, who works as an informatics specialist with the trauma program at Nova Scotia Health, is excited about the opportunity to help the chapter committee evolve and to continue engaging NSPE chapter members.

The ON chapter recently released a session, 0059 Developing Policy in an Integrated World. Strong policies are essential for those who work with health information. Developing effective policies is a challenging yet necessary exercise, and its importance is paramount today perhaps more than ever before. Our health systems are highly integrated and knowing how to build effective policies is a key skill. This session provides guidance on how to do that. Professional members can earn 1.0 CPE credit and it is free for all CHIMA members.

Recently, two CHIMA members were interviewed—Heather Nelson, a BCYT chapter member shared her thoughts on clinical documentation improvement and Diamond Watson-Hill, an ON chapter member, spoke to how the HIM team at Trillium Health Partners has dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are a CHIMA member and would like to share your perspective and knowledge with other members across the country, please contact your chapter to set up an interview.
