What is the HICA certification?

The Health Information-Certified Associate (HICA) designation is for those who want to learn about clinical knowledge, communication, data quality, health care technology, and the health care system. By earning the HICA designation, you could work in positions such as medical office or primary care assistants, unit or registration clerks, among others. To earn the HICA designation, one must pass the HICA certification examination (NCE). The HICA NCE is based on the Health Information Associate Curricular Standards. It covers five practice areas:

  • Clinical knowledge
  • Professionalism in health care
  • Health care office management
  • Technology
  • Health care system
