Introducing Mahmoud Suleiman, CHIMA’s New CEO

Dear CHIMA members and partners,

As you are aware, CHIMA’s Board of Directors has been actively involved in the search for our new CEO, and today we have good news to share.

First, we thank you for your ongoing patience and recognize that this has been a lengthy process. As the CHIMA Board, our goal has been to prioritize the needs and interests of health information professionals amid significant change and advancement in the profession and in healthcare in Canada.

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of our new CEO, Mahmoud Suleiman, BSc. Phm, MHSc., L.L.M. Mahmoud comes to CHIMA with 20 years of experience in healthcare, including as a pharmacist, educator and regulator. Most recently he joins us from the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada, where he has been serving as the Acting Registrar-Treasurer for the past year and held other senior leadership roles there. His previous roles included work overseeing the training and assessment program at the Ontario College of Pharmacists, and as an educator of pharmacy professionals at Humber College and the University of Toronto.

Mahmoud is a lifelong learner and holds a Master of Laws in Innovation, Law and Technology, a Master of Health Science in Health Administration, and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and is currently pursuing the CHIM designation. With a commitment to quality, he brings a wealth of experience driving organizational success, appreciates the importance of data-driven decision-making, and recognizes the valuable role of health information professionals in improving healthcare in Canada. Mahmoud’s leadership approach is based on strong relationship-building, and he looks forward to building dedicated connections with the CHIMA Board, members, partners, and staff.

At this time, we would like to acknowledge and express gratitude to the CHIMA staff for their dedication. Their resilience and hard work have enabled us to deliver on our strategic and operational goals, while growing member engagement and partnerships. We are deeply grateful for their unwavering commitment to our mission during this period of change. The Board would also like to extend a very special thank you to Betsy Nejat, our Interim Operations Lead, for her exceptional support of the team during this time. Betsy’s steady guidance has been instrumental in maintaining our momentum and ensuring our organization delivers on its mission and goals in a supportive environment.

Please join us in welcoming Mahmoud to the team!
