Ida Sadowski, Health Information Management instructor and recent HIM graduate Chloe Litzenberger, both from Regina, participated in the Community Veterinary Outreach (CVO) event in Saskatoon on May 6, 2026. The full day event provided care to 17 pets and engaged with 114 community members. Operating under a One Health model, CVO provides both human and veterinary services to the vulnerably housed or homeless populations who face barriers in accessing such services. By hosting these events, CVO helps bridge this gap for the betterment of these populations across Canada. Ida and Chloe participated at the intake desk, checking in pets and verifying the pet-owner\u2019s personal information, completing documents for pet licenses, and other tasks as required. This was a great opportunity to use our health information management skills, while giving back to the local community. Future opportunities could also include scribing, which would require us to document in the pet\u2019s electronic health record!<\/p>

In Saskatchewan, CVO hosts three events each year in Saskatoon which couldn\u2019t be done without the support of the volunteers and sponsors. Additional opportunities exist across Canada in Vancouver, Kelowna, Yellowknife, Barrie, Kingston, Toronto, Ottawa, York Region and Halifax. Events at these locations would be a great opportunity for HIM students or professionals to make a difference in their communities!
