The Canadian College of Health Information Management (The College) is excited to announce the launch of our new micro-credential products.<\/p>

Our micro-credentials demonstrate expertise or proficiency in a particular skill or field of knowledge. They are designed to be stackable, allowing individuals to accumulate multiple micro-credentials to develop a comprehensive skill set tailored to their career goals or personal interests.<\/p>

Eligible candidates will take the National Micro-credential Exam (NME) to earn the CCHIM\u2122 Digital Badge. CCHIM\u2122 Digital Badges show employers that holders have the competencies and skills need for industry.<\/p>

Our Entry-to-Practice (E2P) Medical Coding micro-credential is intended for graduates of accredited Health Information Management diploma and degree programs that have confirmed their curriculum teaches the micro-credential learning outcomes. Once graduates of these programs have passed the CHIM National Certification Exam (NCE) and have received their CHIM certification, they can sit for the E2P NME. The E2P NME tests candidates on practical coding and abstracting scenarios, confirming they understand the application of the ICD-10-CA\/CCI and Canadian Coding Standards at the entry-to-practice level.<\/p>

Employers can be assured that holders of the CCHIM\u2122 Digital Badge: Entry to Practice (E2P) Medical Coding have the coding and abstracting skills needed to begin working.<\/p>

Similarly, our Release of Information (ROI) micro-credential focuses on the skills and competencies needed for entry level ROI roles.<\/p>

Based on our industry consultations, employers are faced with a shortage of certified professionals with the skills and competencies needed for ROI roles. Expanding the eligibility to both CHIM and HICA-certified professionals ensures employers have enough certified, skilled professionals to fill entry-level roles.<\/p>

Graduates of accredited Health Information Management diploma and degree programs and HICA-accredited programs that have confirmed their curriculum teaches the micro-credential learning outcomes will be eligible. Once graduates of these programs have passed the CHIM or HICA National Certification Exam (NCE) and have received their CHIM or HICA certification, they can sit for the ROI NME. Employers can be assured that holders of the CCHIM\u2122 Digital Badge: Release of Information (ROI) have the entry-level ROI skills needed to begin working.<\/p>

For new graduates of our eligible accredited programs, one attempt at the NME is included in your NCE exam fee.<\/p>

Already certified and interested in sitting for these NMEs? We will be waiving the NME fee for one year to allow interested certified professionals to take the exam.<\/p>
