Libby General, CHIM<\/strong><\/p>

Community Facilitator, Medical Coding Community<\/a><\/strong><\/p>

Libby General began her healthcare career with a diploma in Medical Office Administration, launching into the industry with her first job at a medical transcription company serving both Canada and the US. The demanding hours, including weekends and night shifts, proved challenging while raising a young family. Leveraging her transcription experience, Libby General transitioned into the public sector as the Transcription Coordinator at a large hospital organization, where she was introduced to the world of Health Information Management (HIM)! This experience sparked a deep interest in HIM and its various secondary uses.<\/p>

Determined to further her expertise, Libby General pursued a diploma in HIM and successfully challenged the National exam in 2009. Since then, her career has progressed rapidly, with roles as a Health Information Coordinator, Data Integrity Officer, and Health Records Manager. In 2013, Libby took on a role as Director of HIM and Privacy Officer. With extensive experience in hospitals of all sizes, from large multi-site teaching facilities to small rural hospitals, Libby General has gained invaluable insights into the unique challenges each size hospital presents. The variance in each hospital ensured continuous professional growth and development throughout her career.<\/p>

In addition to their hospital work, Libby has great passion for promoting the value of HIM and supporting learners through their education journey. In 2021 Libby began teaching as a part-time professor in the HIM program at an HIM accredited college. This role has allowed Libby to instruct the next generation of HIM professionals and share her passion for the profession. Seeing the success of past students and their entry into the profession is the most rewarding aspect of Libby\u2019s career.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
