While there\u2019s no magic number to reach herd immunity, most research studies estimate that it could be achieved if about 60-75% of the population is vaccinated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, that\u2019s not an easy task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aside from limited vaccine supply, governments and public health agencies need to address vaccine hesitancy among Canadians. A recent analysis by Environics Analytics shows that approximately 18% of Canadians 16+ are \u201cunsure\u201d they will get the vaccine; 69% say \u201cyes\u201d, while 13% say \u201cno\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many factors affect people\u2019s resistance to getting immunized. It\u2019s important to know:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Who are they? What are their beliefs, behaviours, and other characteristics?<\/li><li>What motivates them?<\/li><li>What communication channels do they use? Can they be reached through TV, radio, out-of-home, print, direct, digital or social media?<\/li><li>Where are they located?<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using VaccineInsights data from Environics Analytics, Esri Canada has mapped vaccine hesitancy levels by health unit across Canada, including socio-demographic data (age, sex, education, household population, marital status, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/healthinfocanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Blog-body_VaccineDashboard_EsriCanada-1024x518.webp\" alt=\"Esri Canada map\" class=\"wp-image-1037108\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A closer look at this <a href=\"https:\/\/resources-covid19canada.hub.arcgis.com\/app\/22c0ed41ccd249a1813bfb1f0b30baff\">map dashboard<\/a> could help government and public health professionals identify and understand where vaccine-hesitant populations are in their community and improve targeting of communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This map is one of the many resources available in the new <a href=\"https:\/\/geohub-chima.hub.arcgis.com\/\">CHIMA GeoHub<\/a>, powered by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.ca\/en-ca\/landing-pages\/what-is-gis\">geographic information system (GIS)<\/a> technology. It uses Esri\u2019s cloud-based mapping and spatial analysis software <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.ca\/en-ca\/products\/gis-mapping-products\/arcgis-online?rmedium=www_esri_ca&amp;rsource=\/arcgisonline\">ArcGIS Online<\/a> and hub technology <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esri.ca\/en-ca\/products\/geo-enabled-products\/arcgis-hub?rmedium=www_esri_ca&amp;rsource=\/hub\">ArcGIS Hub<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the GeoHub, you can access recordings from the recent webinar series \u201cUsing GIS from Data Gathering to Storytelling\u201d and several tutorials that cover a wide range of topics, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Making maps with your data<\/li><li>Geo-enabling your spreadsheets or tabular data<\/li><li>Monitoring COVID-19 cases<\/li><li>Mapping disease outbreaks<\/li><li>Understanding the socio-economic factors of diabetes<\/li><li>Fighting child poverty using demographic analysis<\/li><li>Analyzing where healthcare costs the most<\/li><li>Siting a new hospital<\/li><li>Planning routes for restaurant inspectors<\/li><li>Creating healthcare facilities dashboards<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CHIMA members have access to the Using GIS from Data Gathering to Storytelling 3-part webinar series.
