Awareness<\/highlighted><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Week is a national effort, coordinated by CHIMA.\u00a0 The goal is twofold: to recognize the complexity of health data, and to realize the importance of accurate clinical documentation for patient safety and health system use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this year\u2019s CDI Week, CHIMA would like to encourage all members to spread awareness around the importance of CDI and the vital role it plays in achieving better patient outcomes, improving the quality of information to support planning, service delivery, and appropriate utilization of resources through quality improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clinical documentation improvement roles in HIM<\/highlighted><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

HIM professionals monitor and provide input into the interpretation, compliance and\/or development of standards that affect the structure and content of clinical documents. They are experts and\/or leaders in developing clinical documentation improvement programs within their facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HIM professionals provide two key roles within a CDI program:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. CDI specialist<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Coding professional<\/p>\n\n\n\n
