CIHI – Modernization of CIHI’s DAD, NACRS & CCS<\/strong><\/p>\n

During this session, attendees will learn about initiatives related to modernizing CIHI\u2019s hospital data assets. This includes the multi-year Hospital Data Transformation (HDT) initiative which aims to achieve timelier and richer hospital data on a pan-Canadian basis and streamline and modernize coding resources (Canadian Coding Standards, CCI, and a new classification platform) to improve efficiencies and user experience. Through this work, CIHI aims to better reflect changing models of hospital care delivery, can leverage modern technologies and digital solution implementation in the jurisdictions. Key goals of the projects are (1) to build an integrated hospital data system at CIHI that can accept much timelier data (including data prior to discharge) that is fit-for-purpose; and (2) support adoption of AI-assisted technologies and future electronic health record data collection and coding practices (3) alleviate coding\/abstracting burden at the hospitals, so that coder resources can be directed to more complex\/high value HIM tasks.

PHIA Review update<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Personal Health Information Act in Newfoundland and Labrador undergoes a statutory review once every five years. The 2022-23 review was undertaken to improve PHIA, particularly with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and the recently announced Pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy. The committee did extensive consultations to bring forth the issues that mattered most. The report made recommendations about the interpretation of roles and custodianship, the development of a data stewardship council, indigenous data sovereignty and other recommendations. Overall, these recommendations reflect modern data values and practices that protect privacy, strengthen individual rights to their own personal health information, and enable greater innovation in the health sector. The session will provide an overview of the review and the report recommendations.<\/p>\n
