CHIM professionals have a focused understanding of various practice areas.<\/p>\n\n

These include information governance, quality, medical terminology, analytics, technology, and privacy. They provide leadership and critical perspectives on the collection, protection, and access to health data.<\/p>\n\n

The Canadian College of Health Information Management is the certifying body for health information management (HIM) professionals. Candidates who successfully write the Certified in Health Information Management (CHIM) national certification examination (NCE) earn a CHIM professional designation. This examination assesses the entry-level competencies of graduates of accredited HIM programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

There are three ways to become a Certified Health Information Management (CHIM) professional in Canada:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n

  1. Through an HIM program accredited by the Canadian College of Health Information Management<\/li>\n\n
  2. Through a Health Information Fundamentals program accredited by the Canadian College of Health Information Management, paired with an existing, recognized degree<\/li>\n\n
  3. Or through a reciprocal agreement<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
