Modernising CIHI’s Classification Assets

Speakers: Jillian Johnson, Specialist, Classifications and Terminologies – Development, CIHI & Renata Iannucci, Program Lead, Classifications and Terminologies – Operations, CIHI

Hear about initiatives to modernize the Canadian Coding Standards (CCS), Canadian Classification of Health Interventions (CCI), and ICD-10-CA to keep pace with evolving clinical and technological needs. These efforts aim to improve efficiency, reduce coding burden, support interoperability, and align with future electronic health record practices. Key developments include the Canadian Classification Browser (CCB), a web-based tool combining ICD-10-CA, CCI, and CCS, and the introduction of provisional use codes from CIHI to address urgent health information needs.

Coding Workshop – Stroke and Diabetes Coding

Speaker: Joanne Crago, CHIM, CCCS, Senior Coding and Data Quality Specialist, Lakeridge Health

Join us for a coding workshop concentrating on strokes with diabetes. A chart will be available before the session so you are able to gather your codes and follow along with the workshop. This chart will be an Emergency Department visit to Inpatient visit and will walkthrough both coding scenarios. We will also discuss the resources available to the coders for stroke code assignment and diabetes coding.

Moms & Babes: Delivering Accurate Codes Every Time

Speaker: Jodi McMullin, ScoJo Consulting

This presentation explores the most common—and the most easily overlooked—coding challenges in obstetrics and newborn care. From interpreting documentation, maternal complication codes, and CCI delivery interventions, we’ll walk through practical examples, Canadian Coding Standards with a chance for open discussion at the end. By the end, you’ll be equipped with tips, reminders, and confidence to ensure that every mom, every babe, and every record is coded right the first time.
