MAID Decoded: Simplifying ICD-10-CA and CCI Classification
Speaker: Amna Chaudhry, BHA, CHIM, CCCS, CCDIS, CIPP/C

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) coding can present unique challenges when applying ICD-10-CA and CCI classification standards. This session will explore key coding decision points and provide a simplified approach to identifying and capturing all required codes associated with MAiD cases.

Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the classification process, common areas of complexity, and strategies to support accurate and complete MAiD coding. This session is designed to support coding professionals in applying consistent approaches and improving confidence when assigning MAiD-related codes.

Applying U50 and U51: Coding Motorized Pedestrian Conveyance and Motorcycle Injuries
Speakers: Brittany Adrian, Specialist, Clafficiations & Terminologies - Development, CIHI with Q&A support from Kristy Mabon, Specialist, Classifications & Terminologies - Development, CIHI

This education session will highlight the coding bulletin Coding Direction: Specificity for Certain Types of Motorized Pedestrian Conveyance Devices and Motorcycles. Coders will learn how to classify a coding case through different coding scenarios. Resources will be shared on where to find other U50-U51 related education material

Rare, unique, diverse, and changing: Coding for Pediatric Palliative Care
Speaker: Dr. Dave Lysecki, MD, FRCPC

Access to pediatric palliative care is enshrined as a human right by the United Nations and the World Health Organization, and yet, few jurisdictions globally can quantify the need, capture outcomes, or demonstrate achieving this mandate. Childhood mortality, serious illness, healthcare, and palliative care have each changed dramatically in recent decades. The result is a clinically heterogenous group of fetuses, infants, children, youth, and young adults with rare and sometimes undefined conditions and family members around them also in need of care. This talk will be grounded in the day-to-day realities of pediatric palliative care, and then examine the challenges and opportunities with respect to data definition and collection for this important population.
2:30 PM
Refreshing a CDI Program To Meet Data Needs
Speaker: Lenny VandenBerg, CHIM

Exploring London Health Sciences Centre’s (LHSC) refresh of their Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) program to meet the increasing data needs that drive organizational performance, patient care, and funding in Ontario’s healthcare system. LHSC pioneered their CDI Program in 2013. We will discuss the refreshed program model and what we have learned: leveraging technology for data quality reviews, establishing strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization, addressing barriers to improving clinical documentation, and ongoing development of the program.
