Introducing the new Classification and Coding Specialist national certification examination

The Canadian College of Health Information Management continues to work on the Certified Classification and Coding Specialist certification project and details will be shared with the membership as we finalize the details.

Dates: June 17-21, 2019

Examination Fee: $349 + tax

For a limited time, candidates who register to write the CCCS national certification examination (NCE) in 2019 will receive a $150 early adopter discount on the examination fee and the 2019 classification and coding examination primer.

The CCCS NCE tests the candidate’s accuracy in ICD-10-CA and CCI classification and coding of complex cases. The examination questions are built, and peer reviewed by industry experts and replicate complex scenarios and situations found in acute care settings.

There are two pathways for eligibility to write this exam:

1)      Early career CHIM professional with 5+ years experience; or

2)      CHIM professional interested in deepening his/her knowledge in the field of classification and coding for career advancement

The examination is 2 hours and 12 minutes and consists of a total of 60 multiple-choice questions. The examination will be conducted online using Examity®, an online proctoring solution. Examity® is currently used for the College’s NCE’s and provides flexibility to write examinations remotely.

As the classification and coding process in health care continues to increase in complexity, this certification creates a greater assurance for high quality and accurate coding that encourages continuous quality improvement. The CHIM professional designation, along with experience, can be a catalyst to progress your career!

CHIMA will continue to notify the membership regarding the details of the project and the availability of the registration to the CCCS NCE.
