CHIMA and PAN Form Strategic Partnership to Elevate Patient and Health Information Leadership
The Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) and the Patient Advisors Network (PAN) are excited to announce a strategic partnership that brings together two leaders in health information and patient partnership. This collaboration is set to drive meaningful change in the Canadian healthcare landscape by combining CHIMA’s expertise in health information management with PAN’s commitment to amplifying patient voices.
CHIMA, a nationally recognized organization, represents certified health information professionals across Canada. With over 80 years of history, CHIMA has been at the forefront of promoting quality standards and advancing education and certification for health information professionals. The organization’s strategic vision focuses on knowledge, structure, connection, and progress, driving the critical work of managing, analyzing, and protecting health data that underpins the healthcare system.
PAN, a vibrant network of patient/caregiver advisors, supports them by providing opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and co-creation of healthcare solutions. Their mission aligns with the growing recognition that patient perspectives are essential for designing effective, equitable, and people-centred healthcare systems.
This partnership opens the door to exciting opportunities. CHIMA and PAN will jointly work on initiatives that emphasize the importance of health information in empowering patients to take an active role in their care. Together, they aim to address issues such as data literacy, privacy, and the integration of patient input into health information practices.
One immediate focus will be developing joint educational initiatives that enhance both patient and professional understanding of how health information is managed and utilized. These efforts will contribute to a healthcare system that is more transparent, inclusive, and effective.
“I am excited by this opportunity for both PAN and its members to learn more about our health information and how it is managed and for us to share with the members of CHIMA how our health information and those that manage it are vital to us and our health.” states Alies Maybee, PAN’s co-founder and co-chair.
“This partnership with PAN represents a meaningful step forward in aligning health information management with the voices of patients,” said Betsy Nejat, Senior Director of Partnership and External Relations at CHIMA. “By combining our expertise, we can build a stronger, more inclusive healthcare system that values both accurate data management and the lived experiences of patients.”
By uniting their strengths, CHIMA and PAN are committed to driving innovation, fostering trust, and ensuring the healthcare system evolves to meet the needs of all Canadians. Stay tuned for further developments in this exciting partnership.
