An invitation to join the CIO Strategy Council’s standard-setting process

By Matt MacNeil

The CIO Strategy Council is developing several standards relevant to health information professionals, and we encourage you to get involved.

The CIO Strategy Council’s standards-setting process is open by design and encourages participation from thought leaders, policymakers, commercial interests, academia, and civil society groups from across Canada.

Recently published, CAN/CIOSC 103-2: Digital Trust and Identity – Part 2: Delivery of healthcare services specifies minimum requirements for user-centric health networks that bind a patient’s identity to a set of digital credentials to facilitate secure access to services.

The following standards are in development:

CAN/CIOSC 100-5: Health Data and Information Capability Framework aims to provide guidance on the depth, diversity and complexity of capabilities, including criteria to assess the degree to which the capability is mature and consistently applied across an organization’s data assets and processes.

CAN/CIOSC 100-7: Data Governance – Part 7: Operating model for responsible data stewardship aims to specify minimum requirements for the architecture and governance of responsible data trusts, collaboratives, and cooperatives. It applies to stewardship, accountability, and management in the collection and exchange of data.

CAN/CIOSC 116: Health Data and Information Lexicon will help professionalize data stewardship and management and strengthen data stewardship literacy among the public and leaders, starting in Canada and scaling to other jurisdictions.

CIOSC/TS 115: National Technical Specification for digital credentials and digital trust services aims to specify minimum requirements for the interoperability of cryptographically secure, privacy-respecting, and machine-verifiable digital credentials across delivery platforms and systems.
