About this role
CHIMA is seeking a bold and visionary Manager, Digital Health Innovation & AI Strategy to shape and lead our journey into the future of health information, digital innovation, and responsible AI adoption. This role will champion transformative projects that reimagine how health information is governed, accessed, and used across Canada’s healthcare system.
As a systems thinker and changemaker, you will lead cross-sector collaborations, identify emerging opportunities, and drive strategic initiatives that position CHIMA and the HIM profession as leaders in the digital future of healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead digital innovation initiatives that align with CHIMA’s strategic vision and elevate the role of health information professionals in a tech-enabled health system.
- Design and implement transformation projects focused on interoperability, AI integration, digital identity, and data-driven decision-making.
- Build and nurture partnerships with healthcare organizations, academic institutions, technology vendors, and government stakeholders to provide input into and co-create scalable, future-facing healthcare solutions.
- Contribute to national dialogue on digital health standards, responsible AI use, ethical data practices, and system modernization, bringing the voice of the health information profession.
- Support workforce readiness by identifying trends, developing insights, and informing the evolution of education, certification, and competencies.
- Represent CHIMA at conferences, roundtables, and advisory panels to position the organization as a thought leader in digital transformation.
- Translate complexity into action through strategy documents, roadmaps, stakeholder reports, and policy briefs.
- Oversight and accountability for the organization’s internal technology infrastructure, including planning, implementation and review of technology use to enable organizational efficiencies, scalability and innovation.
- Manage all technology vendors and services, including processes for acquiring and implementing new ones and divesting others, as needed.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in health informatics, digital health, data science, health administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in digital transformation, innovation leadership, or health technology strategy.
- Demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies in healthcare (e.g., AI/ML, cloud architecture, data platforms, automation).
- Strong understanding of health system structures, digital health policy, and interoperability in Canada.
- Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to lead through ambiguity and bring clarity, creativity, and influence.
Assets
- CHIM certification
- Experience with digital ethics, AI governance, or responsible innovation frameworks.
- Knowledge of SNOMED CT, HL7, or other standards in Canadian healthcare.
- Experience in not-for-profit, public sector, or multi-stakeholder environments.
