Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) coding can present unique challenges when applying ICD-10-CA and CCI classification standards. This session will explore key coding decision points and provide a simplified approach to identifying and capturing all required codes associated with MAiD cases.
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the classification process, common areas of complexity, and strategies to support accurate and complete MAiD coding. This session is designed to support coding professionals in applying consistent approaches and improving confidence when assigning MAiD-related codes.

Rare, unique, diverse, and changing: Coding for Pediatric Palliative Care

Access to pediatric palliative care is enshrined as a human right by the United Nations and the World Health Organization, and yet, few jurisdictions globally can quantify the need, capture outcomes, or demonstrate achieving this mandate. Childhood mortality, serious illness, healthcare, and palliative care have each changed dramatically in recent decades. The result is a clinically heterogenous group of fetuses, infants, children, youth, and young adults with rare and sometimes undefined conditions and family members around them also in need of care. This talk will be grounded in the day-to-day realities of pediatric palliative care, and then examine the challenges and opportunities with respect to data definition and collection for this important population.
