It advocates for and monitors trends within the profession, creates networking opportunities, and facilitates continuing education for its members. About the Canadian College for Health Information Management (CCHIM)

The College is a national, not-for-profit corporation that sets the accreditation standards for educational institutions and certification standards for health information professionals in Canada.

The College, incorporated in 1972, protects the public interest by governing and regulating the professional practice of more than 4,600 certified health information member registrants. In enhancing its status as a regulatory body, the College advances the professionalization of the health information industry and acknowledgment of its professionals as a key driver of policy, funding, and the care that Canadians receive.

 
About this role

In this role, you will lead two key portfolios: internal technology strategy and execution and external technological innovation and strategy.  In your role, you will guide CHIMA and its members to embrace and prepare for existing and emerging technological innovations such as Artificial Intelligence.  Fostering transparency, collaboration, and efficiency, you will champion continuous improvement, learning and technological openness and adoption, both internally and externally.

A high degree of technical skill is required for this role; we are a digital organization leveraging modern collaboration platforms and embracing innovative technologies to achieve our mandate.

 
Key Responsibilities
Internal Strategy Oversight
  • Provide oversight and accountability for the organization’s internal technology infrastructure, including planning, implementing and review of technology use to enable organizational efficiencies, scalability and innovation.
  • Act as an advisor to senior leadership, providing insight and recommendations into CHIMA’s overall technology infrastructure and use.
  • Manage all internal technology vendors and service providers, including processes for acquiring and implementing new ones and divesting others, as needed.
External Strategy Lead
  • Act as an advisor to senior leadership, providing insight and recommendations into CHIMA’s role in preparing it’s members for present and future innovation.
  • Provide input into continuing education content (i.e. webinars, community meetings, education days, conferences) for members and broader health information community.
  • Lead digital innovation initiatives that align with CHIMA’s strategic vision and elevate the role of health information professionals in a tech-enabled health system.
  • Contribute to national dialogue on digital health standards, responsible AI use, ethical health data practices, and system modernization, bringing the voice of the health information profession and professionals to influential discussions.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Registrar and Partnerships and External Relations team to secure high profile speaking opportunities at relevant events.
  • Support the Marketing & Communications Coordinator in development of messaging and content on technological insights, trends and their impacts on the health information profession.
  • Deliver board, staff and members presentations as needed on topics related to AI, digital health, etc.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Registrar and other team members to support workforce readiness by identifying key trends, and insights to inform the evolution of our college standards and certification.
  • Lead with positivity, resilience, and solution-oriented thinking, especially in the face of challenges.

 

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in health information management, health informatics, digital health, data science, health administration, or a related field.
  • Active certification with the Canadian College of Health Information Management (i.e. CHIM).
  • 5+ years of experience in digital transformation, innovation leadership, or health technology strategy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies in healthcare (e.g., AI/ML, cloud architecture, data platforms, automation).
  • Strong understanding of health system structures, digital health policy, and interoperability in Canada.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship building skills.
  • Ability to lead through ambiguity and bring clarity, creativity, and influence.
  • Proficiency with WordPress, Asana, QuickBooks, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, WooCommerce, website maintenance.
  • Expertise in information and data governance.

 

Assets
  • Bilingual in French and English.
  • Experience with digital ethics, data, information and/or AI governance, or responsible innovation frameworks.
  • Experience in not-for-profit, member associations, or multi-partner environments.
  • Understanding of change management principles.
  • Strong understanding of health information privacy legislation and policies.
  • Experience in leading diverse teams remotely.
 
Location

This is a remote role based out of a home office in Canada, with some travel required.  The organization is national, with staff, chapters, and board members across Canada. Accordingly, this role is open to candidates nationwide with a work-from-home arrangement. Some travel to destinations across Canada, is required.

A work-from-home setup is provided as part of this role.
